Mixed age (babies – 4 years)

Mixi Mice is our mixed all age 0-4’s music and movement class in locations around Cornwall. It lasts for 45 minutes of fun, and covers the content from the Maxi class for the older ones as well as being adapted for Mini’s in the room. It’s equally good for those who would otherwise be in Maxi or Mini age ranges. It’s also perfect for those who prefer smaller classes and sibling pairs so everyone gets the right ingredients.

The best of all ages in one class: 0-4’s music and movement

Mixi Mice is our mixed age 0-4’s music and movement class in Cornwall. Besides the wide variety of instruments suited to the songs, there’s lots of actions, tickling, raspberries, clapping and jumping, as well as more calming bubbles and fairy lights and a touch of signing.

There will be plenty of variety from week to week because we want to make sure your little one gets a wide range of musical play. This is balanced with the loose structure and familiarity that children benefit from. We always sing the same opening and closing songs with varying silly songs and nursery rhymes in the middle. We like to get the bubbles out every week and some swathe of fabric or parachute to wobble or hide under. In Mixi Mice, we focus both on actions suited to the older audience and lots of movement, while also adapting for the younger mice as would be more appropriate. Be prepared to join in with the actions and rock out with them. And don’t forget to bring your air guitars!

As well as having lots of fun and exploring music, there are tricks to help the children start to pick up on different rhythms, tempos and moods. It’s amazing to watch little ones grow to discern whether a song makes them feel calm, or silly, or “rocking”. Similarly there are ways to help them in their physical and motor skill development through the carefully considered movement elements. In time they will learn how different songs make them feel. It might not always be obvious, but we build in carefully considered movement elements. For example, we practice crossing the midline which aids physical and brain development. This helps in skills such as writing, visual tracking and putting on shoes.

For the Mini’s, we incorporate movement and actions carefully considered to develop motor skills, communication, coordination and imagination. We use activities and key-word signing to aid communication skills (plus singing is also known to aid language development).

The grown ups will enjoy the Mixi Mice music too – we don’t think children need to have bad taste in music. We’ve made music the whole family can enjoy across a range of genres to introduce little ones to its variety. Who knows, your little one might surprise you with a love of rock, or funk, or country music!

There are plenty of elements for everyone in this class, but get in touch to ask more if you’ve any questions.
Please note: parents remain in a supervisory role of their little one throughout the session.

Hickory Dickory Rock is such a fun, creative and educational way to spend time with my two young children. They both love it and sing the songs all the time at home!
